Lora
I am a 41 years young widowed Christian woman looking for true Christian based friendship.
Come and Dine
11Samuel 9:1-3
And David said, is there yet any that is left of the house of Saul, that I may shew him
Kindness for Jonathan's sake? Now King David loved Jonathan as a brother and Jonathan helped save David's life. And there was of the house of Saul a servant whose name was and he said, Thy servant is he. And the king said, Is there not yet any of the house of Saul, that I may shew the kindness of God unto him? And Ziba said unto the king, Jonathan hath yet a son, which is lame on his feet.
11Samuel 4:4
And Jonathan, Saul's son, had a son that was lame of his feet. He was five years old when the tidings came of Saul and Jonathan out of Jezreel, and his nurse took him up and fled: and it came to pass, as she made haste to flee, that he fell, and became lame. And his name was Mephibosheth.
11Samuel 9:4-8
And the king said unto him, Where is he? And Ziba said unto the king, Behold, he is in the house of Machir, the son of Ammiel, from Lodebar. Then King David sent, and fetched him out of the house of Machir, the son of Ammiel, from Lodebar. Now when Mephibosheth, the son of Jonathan, the son of Saul, had come unto David, he fell on his face, and did reverence. And David said, Mephibosheth. And he answered, Behold thy servant! And David said unto him, Fear Not: for I will surely shew thee kindness for Jonathan thy father's sake, and will restore thee all the land of Saul thy father; and thou shall eat bread at my table continually. And he bowed himself, and said, What is thy servant, that thou shouldest look upon such a dead dog as I am?
1Samuel 20:14-17
And thou shalt not cut off thy kindness from my house ever: no, not when the Lord hath cut off the enemies of David every one from the face of the earth. So Jonathan made a covenant with the house of David, saying, let the Lord even require it at the hand of David's enemies. And Jonathan caused David to swear again, because he loved him: for he loved him as he loved his own soul.
So David honored his covenant with Jonathan. But David had made a vow with Jonathan. Can you just imagine how Mephibosheth felt? He was sure that the king would kill him. After all, his whole family had been destroyed and he would have been too, had it not been for his nursemaid. Here he was not worthy to even be in the king’s presence, yet David said he would eat from his table forever more. Hmmmmmmmm
Jesus is the same with us today. Even though adversities may come our way, He doesn't forget about us. He calls us back time and time again. Can't you just imagine the King calling you out? You and I have felt like no one cares about us anymore. We have felt isolated and alone for so long. We have hidden ourselves away because of our crippled souls.
Then all of the sudden we find we have been discovered. Jesus calls us out by name. We had once known that you were of a royal heritage, but we had strayed from God. Man had told us that we would never be worth anything and that we might as well just give up. Oh, but Jesus says, Come and Dine at my table. Pull up to an old fashioned alter and begin to supper at my table with Me.
As fear begins to grab at our spirit we start to think, "Lord, I'm not worthy to come before you, let a lone sup with you." But Jesus says to us, "Come and Dine with Me."
We will reply to Him with, "But, Lord, I've not always been faithful to you, yet Lord I do still love you, I am just weak at times."
Jesus will always reply, "Come child, you will never be alone again. You will feast at My table. You shall rest in My bosom."
Jesus is looking for His brides to come back to Him for one of these days. Time and time again He calls us to come and dine with Him.
Jesus gave a parable saying to us:
Luke 14:16-17
Then said he unto them, A certain man made a great supper, and bade many: And sent his servant at supper time to say to them that they were bidden, Come; for all things are now ready. However, all of them made excuses not to come. They were to busy with other things to stop and have dinner.
Isn't that just like us? We are too busy to spend even just a few minutes at the Master's table.
Luke 14:21-24
So that servant came, and shewed hid lord these things. Then the master of the house being angry said to his servant, Go out quickly into the streets and lanes of the city, and bring in hither the poor, and the maimed, and the halt, and the blind. And the servant said, Lord, it is done as thou hast commanded, and yet there is room. And the lord said unto the servant, Go out into the highways and hedges, and compel them to come in, that my house may be filled. For I say unto you, that none of those men which were bidden shall taste of my supper.
One of these days, He is going to call His church too, to come home with Him. The bridegroom is preparing the wedding feast even now as we speak. If we are to busy for Him now, then we will not be present at the wedding feast. We had better begin to get our lives where they are worthy of His calling.
One of these days, I plan on sitting at the table with my Saviour, Jesus Christ, and eating of all that He has prepared for me. How many of you plan on joining us for that feast? Mephibosheth did not feel he would ever be worthy of anything, but yet he ate at the kings table for the rest of his life. Jesus loves you and He wants you to come and dine with Him. He calls and calls “Come and Dine.” Do you hear Him tonight? Is He calling your name out? Won’t you come, oh won’t you come?
